Opportunities for Laymen in the United States

In a dynamic display of insightful sharing and enriching experiences, the event “Opportunities for Laymen in the United States!” unfolded on June 24th, 2023, from 9 am to 12 pm at Sektor Sumber Teknologi Pendidikan, Ipoh. The event was thoughtfully orchestrated by six distinguished MACEE grantees who have established their base in Perak. Guided by their expertise, each speaker, in a succinct 15-minute slot, delved into their personal journeys in the United States, the transformative impact of their respective programs, and invaluable tips for navigating the program application process.
The significance of the occasion was further magnified by the presence of notable dignitaries. MACEE’s Executive Director, Mr. Curtis Johnson, graced the event as its esteemed officiator. Joining him was En. Md Faisal bin Md Yusuf, Principal Assistant Director of the Perak State Education Department. Anita Kalimuthu, a dedicated English language educator at SMK Tarcision Convent, Ipoh, and an ILEP 2013 grantee, took the stage. Her presentation resonated with insights garnered from her time at James Madison University.
Afiqah Mohamad Afendi, an accomplished English language teacher at SMK Batu 4, Gerik, and TEA 2023 grantee, shared her illuminating experience during the TEA 2023 interview process.
Mohana Ram Murugiah, an inspiring English language educator at Methodist Girls School, Ipoh, and an ILEP 2015 grantee, provided captivating insights into his transformative journey at Clemson University.
Dr. Mohd Muzafar Shah bin Razali, a distinguished senior lecturer from the Department of Psychology and Counselling at Sultan Idris Education University and a Hubert Humphrey 2009 grantee, unveiled his enriching experience at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Nurul Faznur binti Mohamad Husaini, an enthusiastic English language teacher at SMK Simpang Beluru, Kuala Kangsar, and TEA 2021 grantee, shared her transformative journey at California State University.
Ong Elly, a dedicated lecturer at the Academy of Language Studies in Universiti Teknologi MARA Perak Branch Tapah Campus, and an ILEP 2009 grantee, presented her enriching experience at Montana State University, shedding light on the world of academia and cross-cultural interactions.
This collective endeavor to share knowledge and experiences echoed the spirit of growth, exploration, and cross-cultural learning. The event epitomized the remarkable impact that educational exchange programs can have on individuals and their communities.
